Dear California…

Long time not see… After a few years we decided to visit California again. This state is so big! We planned a road trip with a mix of our favorite places and new spots.

First Stop: San Francisco Bay Area & Sacramento

At first we headed east to stay for a week in the winery valley south of Sacramento. We stayed at a great Airbnb with a big pool and fruit trees in the backyard. That was a perfect start to slow down: relaxing at and in the pool, enjoying the countryside.

Second Stop: Tahoe Lake

I heard a lot about this mountain lake so we had to explore this area. We stayed for two days and drove around the lake a whole day. That was wonderful because the little villages and the views are changing a lot. So it was nice to get different perspectives of the lake and the mountains. We also took the chance to do a little hike trip to Chimney beach. We did not really knew about the way down through the forest. It was more adventurous than we expected. We had to climb over rocks and through a river. We couldn’t believe that some people who we met along the way had a lot of beach stuff with them. We were happy just to have towels and water.

Third Stop: Yosemite

We did a real road trip adventure from Tahoe to Yosemite: We took the Sonora Pass (State Route 108). It is a dramatic, high-elevation mountain pass in the Sierra Nevada reaching 9,624 feet and the second-highest pass with a road in California and in the Sierra Nevada. After 3 hours in the high mountains we reached Pinecrest for a break at a mountain lake. But the way via Route 49, the Golden Chain Highway, was unexpected exciting and dangerous . The pictures cannot capture the views.
We were really glad that we did it to South Yosemite without any accidents or problems.

Fourth Stop: Los Angeles

After several days in the mountains we really appreciated to go back to the coast. It was really funny to have a break at Kingsburg. It is a small town south of Fresno with a Swedish community. The colorful wood horses are so cute.
The days in the LA were nothing completely new for us but we enjoyed to visit different places we like. And of course we wanted to explorer also new places in this area . We went to Getty villa, a nice place in Malibu.
